Porifera Phylum
Porifera consists of all 5,000 species of sponge. Sponges are some of the simplest animals on earth.Sponges contain channels and pores that allows water to pass through it.These animals are multicellular.
Fire Sponge(Tedania Ignis)
Not much is known about the other ways this species reproduces most focuses on sexual reproduction. these sponges are hermaphrodites eggs are produced by archeoctye or choanocyte and become fertilized when the sponge takes in sperm from a near by Fire Sponge through incurrent pores. Fertile eggs are kept in the female until released as larvae from April to August.
Trumpet Sponge(Stylissa Stipitata)
These Sponges have many ways to reproduce like external fertilization, spawning, and budding. I will be discussing budding. Budding is when a sponge grows an extra branch which breaks of from the parent and settles in an area where it matures and continues the processes when it is ready to reproduce.
Giant Barrel Sponges(Xestopongia Muta)
Like most sponges these are hermaphrodites. these Sponges are known for spawning which is when sponges release a cloud of sperm or a cloud of eggs they do not produce both.
